One of the first decisions you have to make in the wedding planning process is where you’re actually going to gather on your big day. The venue is critically important—it sets the tone and the mood, and it governs how many people you can have, what catering options you have, and more.
You’ll obviously want to tour a wedding venue (or, in most cases, a few wedding venues) before making your final decision. As you plan your wedding venue tour, here are a few pointers to keep in mind.
Scheduling Your Tour
Actually scheduling your tour should be pretty easy—just call or email the venue and tell them you want to consider the place for your wedding. We’d recommend asking about current booking availability—some venues may be booked up for the day you plan on getting married, so you might as well not waste time with a tour.
Note that your tour can take anywhere from half an hour to three hours, simply depending on the size of the place. At Mosteller Mansion, you can expect to have your tour completed in somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour.
Think About Seasonality
Are you getting married in December? Then touring the venue in July may not give you an accurate picture of what the place will look like on your big day, with leaves fallen from the trees, gray skies, etc.
There’s not always a good way around this problem, but do ask your tour guide to show you some pictures of what the venue will look like during the season when you actually get married. Also ask about any special considerations you’ll need to make regarding lighting, outdoor facilities, etc.
Ask Plenty of Questions
When selecting a wedding venue, there is much to consider—and as such, we’d recommend making a list of questions before your tour. Some specific things to ask include:
- Questions about cost/budget
- Total seating capacity
- Access to other facilities, such as dressing rooms
- Any restrictions on catering
- Proximity to hotels
- Parking/access to public transportation
- Back-up plans and rain accommodations
- Other services the venue offers, like linens, dishware, etc.
Always ask plenty of questions to make sure you feel totally comfortable with the venue in question. And if you have any questions about Mosteller Mansion in particular, we’d love to answer them! Contact us today to learn more about hosting your wedding at our venue.
